The Wigan based charity Fit It UK has recently secured a grant of £28,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales through its Community Programme.
The charity, based in a fully equipped motor repair workshop at the Rosebridge Industrial Estate in Springview, provides a range of activities and courses targeted at young people who are at risk of becoming involved in crime or are excluded from education, by focusing on activities related to cars and motor mechanics. Fix It UK works with schools, pupil referral units, Connexions and the Youth Offending Team to identify young people that would benefit from their work.
The grant will fund two training courses for young people over the age of 16 years that will provide vocational qualifications and engage, support and encourage them into future education or employment opportunities, by meeting the costs of tutors, activities and running costs.
Jayne Kelly, the Operations Manager for Fix It UK said, “We are really pleased to have received this grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation as it will enable us to further develop our work with young people after they have left school. We will be running a new course that will provide the young people we work with a qualification that they can use to move on to paid employment or further education and training.”
Yvonne Taylor, Lloyds TSB Foundation for England & Wales grant manager for Lancashire and North Manchester added, “The Lloyds TSB Foundation is delighted to provide funding for Fix It UK to extend its support to young people and we would be interested in hearing from other charities in Wigan that are looking for funding to work with disadvantaged people.”
